What is Sarah Discoveries?

Sarah Tours Inc. was initially founded in response to the low-quality, mass-market mentality of tourism in Morocco exploited mainly by foreign, large-volume companies. Sarah Tours Inc. set out to create a new approach to travel in Morocco respectfully and adequately distributed in different regions creating opportunities for the traveler and local people in remote areas. With more emphasis on education and environment preservation Sarah Tours was the first company to create programs and itineraries to develop rural and eco-tourism when others were busy focusing on mass tourism in the big cities and beaches; a tourism that does not suit nor benefit an ancient culture and a beautiful country like Morocco. Sarah Tours is extremely proud of the reputation we have earned for Travel to Morocco and have since developed programs of quality, custom-designed private tours to the diverse areas of Morocco, whether in the royal historic cities or in the evergreen cedar forests of the Riff mountains or the high peaks of the Atlas Mountains in the oases and Kasbahs of the mystic Sahara desert, with integrity and respect to its authenticity.

Sarah Tours Inc. was founded by Hamid Mernissi, an anthropologist and ethnomusicologist who started early in his career as an overland, trekking and hiking tour guide with internationally well-known companies from Great Britain, Australia and the U.S. In his twenties, he also worked for the Cinematographic Center of Morocco as a researcher, editor and site locator for foreign and local filmmakers. As an advocate for preservation of nature and native culture and heritage, he wanted to make a positive impact on the Moroccan land and culture through his work. He recognized that Moroccan tourism was headed down an exploitative path that so many touristic cultures have experienced. Thus, he established the first company in Morocco of cultural, adventure and spiritual travel with a mission to educate travelers about the beauties of Morocco, while preserving these aspects of Moroccan culture and its people. Hamid has dedicated his life's work to living out this mission. He personally designs each journey to Morocco with two components: a fun, enriching, and educational experience for the traveler that has a positive impact on the economy and/or environment of Morocco.
